For a period of her life, she took theatre courses: "Teatro para Cantores" with Jeanne Henny and "Curso de Teatro" promoted by Studio Isadora Duncan, Maria did professional acting for children: "Little Red Riding Hood". produced by Arthur Moura Pinto and directed by Zélia Zamirn, where Maria had the main role. After that, in the Netherlands, she also attended drama master classes with Philip Curtis as well as with other drama and stage movement teachers of the Opera Academy of the Royal Conservatory in the Hague.
First and foremost, the fixed yearly event is the students’ concert. All of Maria’s students will perform and sing one or more songs of their choosing in front of an interested audience.
Next to that, Maria also regularly organises opera projects with her own "Maria Alves Academy" of her students and other amateur or professional singers, combining Opera, Song and Drama. Maria also performs as professional singer in some of those productions.
She produced and directed many such projects, for instance "Perhaps Love" (2011) created by Maria and with text by Jeroen Wijnhorst, Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro" (2012), "Lang zullen ze..." (2012) created by Maria and with text by Jeroen Wijnhorst, Ravel's "L'enfant et les sortilèges" (2013), Pergolesi's "La serva padrona", “Ave Maria”, a program with 15 different Ave Maria songs and arias, “I Barbieri” (2015) created by Maria and text by Jeroen Wijnhorst, Menotti's “The Telephone” (2017), “Nostro Don Giovanni” (2017) created by Maria, with text by Jeroen Wijnhorst,"As Divas Portuguesas"(2017-2020) created by Maria, with opera arias and Fado songs, and "Cosi fan tutte, perché no?" created by Maria and Jeroen Wijnhorst (2020-2022).
